AbstractPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis representasi identitas gay dalam konteks budaya Jawa melalui film "Pria" menggunakan pendekatan semiotika Charles Peirce dan queer theory Judith Butler. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologis, menggunakan data primer dari film dan data sekunder dari literatur terkait. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui teknik dokumentasi dan observasi mendetail, sementara analisis data dilakukan menggunakan kerangka semiotika Peirce dan diuji keabsahannya melalui triangulasi sumber. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tabu gender dalam norma budaya Jawa sangat kuat, menciptakan hambatan psikologis dan praktis bagi individu yang menyimpang dari ekspektasi gender tradisional. Laki-laki yang menunjukkan perilaku feminin atau gay sering dihadapkan pada stigma dan diskriminasi, sementara perempuan yang mengambil peran maskulin juga menghadapi penolakan sosial. Analisis semiotika terhadap film "Pria" mengungkapkan bahwa setiap tanda dalam film ini mengandung makna mendalam terkait gender dan seksualitas. Interaksi Aris dengan gurunya dan adegan bercumbu menunjukkan pemahaman dan penerimaan identitas seksual mereka, sementara pernikahan Aris dengan perempuan menunjukkan konformitas sosial dan pengorbanan identitas pribadi. Pembahasan mengintegrasikan perspektif queer theory Butler, yang menyoroti performativitas gender sebagai cara memahami bagaimana identitas dikonstruksi dan dinegosiasikan dalam konteks sosial yang ketat. Film "Pria" membuka wacana tentang pentingnya penerimaan dan pengakuan keberagaman gender dan seksualitas, menantang norma-norma tradisional yang sering kali membatasi ekspresi individual. Penelitian ini menegaskan perlunya pendekatan yang lebih inklusif dan sensitif terhadap budaya untuk mengatasi diskriminasi dan menciptakan lingkungan yang mendukung keberagaman identitas seksual
