AbstractSebagian teroris mengaitkan tindakan teror yang mereka lakukan dengan agama. Mereka melandaskannya pada sejumlah doktrin yang termaktub di dalam kitab suci. Dari sini muncullah istilah “teror suci.†Khusus bagi yang beragama Islam mereka menyebutnya dengan istilah jihad. Padahal jihad berbeda dengan segenap aktivitas yang bernuansa teror. Tulisan ini mencoba mengelaborasi lebih jauh seperti apa teror suci yang dimaknai para teroris. Metode penelitian yang penulis gunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif yakni penelitian kepustakaan. Sedang teori yang dipakai adalah teori konstruksi sosial yang disusun oleh Peter L. Berger dan Thoman Luckmann. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa teror suci diciptakan kalangan teroris dengan membajak doktrin-doktrin Kitab Suci dan hadis nabi untuk kepentingan mereka. Mereka meminjam imej sakral dalam agama untuk menjalankan agenda mereka, seperti menyamakan aksi teror dengan jihad. Dari sini muncullah istilah teror suci. Padahal jihad dan teror itu berbeda baik dari segia asal kata, proses maupun tujuannya. Teror suci hanyalah imajinasi untuk melegitimasi aksi teror yang menyalahi aturan Ilahi. Akibatnya agama yang berorientasi menciptakan kedamaian menjadi sarat akan ketakutan. KeywordsMenyingkap, Tabir, Teror Suci.
